The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has launched an investigation into allegations that some of its officials extorted commercial bus drivers along the Coastal Road in Lagos.
The allegation, which surfaced in a social media post by Objectv Media, claimed that officers of the agency had been arresting commercial buses and demanding as much as ₦100,000 before releasing the vehicles.
Responding in a statement on Saturday, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, said the agency was taking the claims seriously and had commenced a full-scale probe.
He said, “The Authority views such allegations with utmost seriousness, as LASTMA remains a disciplined, professional and ethically guided government institution that does not, under any circumstances, condone misconduct, abuse of office or extortion by any of its personnel.”

“This inquiry has already commenced in earnest, and the Authority assures the public that any officer found culpable upon the conclusion of due investigation processes will face the full wrath of the law in strict accordance with established rules and regulations,” he added.
