Iran crisis: US embassy alerts citizens to possible Abuja protests

The Embassy of the United States in Abuja has issued a security advisory to American citizens in Nigeria, warning of a strong possibility of protests in the nation’s capital on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the embassy linked the alert to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, noting that some previous demonstrations in Abuja had escalated into violence.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protests in Abuja today, March 4, 2026, due to the current conflict with Iran,” the statement said.

It added that earlier protests had resulted in “violent clashes between the group and Nigerian security forces.”
