Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his rich vein of form as Leeds United recovered to earn a 1-1 Premier League draw away to Brentford on Sunday.
The striker found the net for a fourth consecutive league match, rescuing a point for Daniel Farke’s side in an uninspiring contest at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Brentford had taken the lead in the 70th minute through Jordan Henderson, whose first Premier League goal since December 2021 arrived via a deflection off Jaka Bijol after good work from substitutes Rico Henry and Mikkel Damsgaard.
The goal came largely against the flow of play, with the hosts having struggled to create much beforehand.
Leeds refused to fold and were rewarded 12 minutes later when Wilfried Gnonto delivered an excellent cross from the left, allowing Calvert-Lewin to rise above his marker and head home the equaliser.
The goal capped another influential cameo from Gnonto, who has regularly provided attacking impetus off the bench.
Brentford had earlier thought they had a chance to go ahead from the penalty spot, but VAR intervened to overturn the decision.
Despite their late push, the Bees were unable to see out the lead, extending a worrying trend of dropped points from winning positions this season.
Leeds nearly completed the turnaround late on, only for Caoimhín Kelleher to deny Ethan Ampadu with a smart save.
The visitors finished the match with superior numbers across most attacking metrics, recording 17 shots to Brentford’s seven and generating 1.39 expected goals compared to the hosts’ 0.71.
For Calvert-Lewin, the goal underlined an encouraging revival after injury-hit final seasons at Everton. He now has five league goals in 14 appearances for Leeds and is enjoying his longest Premier League scoring streak since a five-game run in 2020.
While the performance itself lacked sparkle, Leeds will feel they deserved their point, having spent much of the game on the front foot and applying sustained pressure in the final third.
