Enugu gov Peter Mbah dumps PDP, Joins APC

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a desire to align with the ruling party’s vision for national development and progress.

Mbah made the announcement on Tuesday during a press briefing held in Enugu, the state capital.

The governor said his decision followed a period of deep reflection on how best to serve the people of Enugu and advance the state’s developmental goals.

“Today, after a long period of reflection and consultation, I have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah declared.

“This decision was not taken lightly, but it is driven by my conviction that the APC offers a stronger platform to achieve our collective aspirations for Enugu State.”

He explained that joining the APC would enable better collaboration with the Federal Government and open more opportunities for the state’s growth.

“My commitment to the people of Enugu remains unwavering. This move is about ensuring that our development agenda continues without interruption and that we tap into wider networks for progress,” the governor added.

The defection has already stirred political excitement in Enugu, with reports of increased sales of APC-branded brooms across parts of the state following the announcement.

Meanwhile, political observers say Mbah’s move could reshape political alignments in the South-East ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mbah’s defection comes amid growing efforts by the APC to strengthen its presence in the region, which has historically been a PDP stronghold.
