The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign.
The state government described the document as fraudulent, alleging that it was designed to mislead the public and damage the governor’s reputation.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday.
Maiyaki said the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” was allegedly addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
He noted that the amount cited in the letter was inconsistent with the state’s financial capacity, as Kaduna’s 2026 budget stood at N985.92 billion.
According to him, the alleged expenditure was more than twice the state’s annual budget and had no backing in official appropriation or expenditure records.
“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Gov. Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3tn was budgeted, approved or released,” Maiyaki said.
He also identified discrepancies in the document, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and what he described as the unauthorised reproduction of the governor’s signature.
The commissioner described the allegation as a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said the Sani administration, which assumed office on May 29, 2023, remained committed to fiscal discipline, transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds.
Maiyaki listed security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection among the administration’s priority areas.
He warned that fabricating official correspondence and circulating false financial claims could constitute criminal offences.
“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that efforts were underway to establish the origin of the purported letter and called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the matter and ensure that anyone found culpable faced appropriate legal action.
He also urged media organisations and members of the public to verify documents before circulating allegations involving public expenditure.
Maiyaki reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to responsible financial management and sustainable development, adding that the administration would not be distracted by what it described as deliberate misinformation.
