Court adjourns cyberstalking case against Doris Ogala

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has postponed proceedings in the cyberstalking case involving Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, after she failed to appear in court for the second consecutive hearing.

The actress is facing charges filed by Chris Okafor, who accused her of cyberbullying, publishing private information without consent, disseminating false information online, and attempted extortion.

At Tuesday’s hearing, Ogala’s counsel, N.C. Atulomah informed the court that his client was undergoing medical treatment at a Federal Medical Centre and therefore could not attend the proceedings.

According to the lawyer, affidavits had been filed to support the request for an adjournment.

“My client is currently receiving medical attention, and we have submitted the necessary documents before the court. We assure the court that she will be available at the next hearing,” Atulomah said.

The prosecution, however, questioned the application. Prosecuting counsel Tolulope Mokuola argued that documents before the court indicated that Ogala had already been discharged from the hospital.

Mokuola also pointed to her recent participation in political activities, including campaigning and winning a party primary election, as reasons to doubt the severity of her health challenges.

“I am reluctantly agreeing to the request for an adjournment based on the documents presented today.
However, if the defendant fails to appear at the next sitting, I will seek a bench warrant for her arrest,” Mokuola told the court.

Presiding judge Akintayo Aluko subsequently adjourned the matter until October 28, 2026.

The case had also been delayed during the previous sitting after Ogala reportedly underwent surgery shortly before the court date.

The legal dispute stems from allegations made by Ogala concerning her past relationship with Okafor. The actress had claimed that she was involved with the cleric for several years and had ended a previous marriage based on assurances that he would marry her.

She later demanded either marriage or financial compensation and reportedly sought N1 billion in damages.

The controversy deepened after Okafor married another woman, identified as Pearl. While he initially dismissed Ogala’s claims, he later acknowledged that they had been in a relationship before subsequently withdrawing the admission, saying he made the statement under pressure.
The matter is expected to return to court on October 28 for further proceedings.
