KC Luxury: Court adjourns case to September 21

The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned proceedings in the case involving the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, popularly known as KC Luxury, to September 21, 2026.

The matter was adjourned on Wednesday by Justice Friday Ogazi after lawyers representing KC Luxury and the NDLEA addressed the court.

KC Luxury’s lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal, challenged the interpretation of an earlier order extending his client’s detention for 30 days.

Labi-Lawal argued that the order, issued by Justice Akintayo Aluko on August 20, did not specifically require the NDLEA to keep KC Luxury in custody for the entire 30-day period.

According to the lawyer, the agency could release his client on bail if it considered its investigation sufficiently advanced.

“My client’s detention is not necessarily for the entire 30-day period,” Labi-Lawal submitted, arguing that the NDLEA retained the option of releasing him on bail.

He also informed the court that KC Luxury had challenged the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court to issue the detention order.

The lawyer said the application challenging the order had already been argued before Justice Aluko and that the parties were awaiting the court’s decision.

He consequently asked Justice Ogazi to adjourn the proceedings.

Counsel to the NDLEA, Abu Ibrahim, did not object to the request for an adjournment.

Ibrahim told the court that the 30-day remand order was obtained before KC Luxury approached the court seeking an order compelling the agency to produce him.

Justice Ogazi subsequently adjourned the matter until September 21 for further proceedings.

KC Luxury was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while reportedly preparing to travel to Paris.

The agency linked his arrest to the seizure of 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine from a courier company, describing the operation as its largest cocaine seizure from a courier firm.

NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, had also said the socialite was found with €7,750, £2,800, ₦100,000 and expensive jewellery at the time of his arrest.

The agency said KC Luxury was arrested alongside Lawal Kehinde, an employee of a logistics company allegedly connected to the consignment.

On August 27, Justice Ogazi had ordered the NDLEA to produce KC Luxury before the court after his lawyer complained that he had remained in custody without being formally charged and arraigned.

KC Luxury has asked Justice Aluko to set aside or discharge the 30-day detention order, arguing that no criminal charge had been filed against him.
