Germany striker, Niclas Füllkrug, scored in the second half as Werder Bremen came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Cologne in their Bundesliga encounter on Saturday.
Cologne took the lead through Linton Maina after the hosts had earlier missed a penalty.
Thijs Dallinga was given the chance to open the scoring from the spot after his effort struck the arm of Youri Regeer inside the box, but Werder goalkeeper Karl Hein produced an excellent save to deny him.
The hosts eventually found the breakthrough when Maina finished a swift counter-attack, with Ellyes Skhiri providing the assist after combining with Tom Krauß.
Cologne went into the interval with the advantage despite Werder enjoying significant possession as the half progressed.
Werder returned from the break with greater attacking intent and quickly began putting pressure on the Cologne defence.
Olivier Deman forced Marvin Schwäbe into action before Chuki tested the goalkeeper with a close-range effort.
The visitors came close to levelling in the 58th minute when Eren Dinkçi met a cross from Füllkrug and fired against the crossbar. Cologne also remained dangerous, with teenage winger Mikey Moore producing a fine individual run before Hein tipped his curling effort over the bar.
Werder finally got their reward in the 70th minute.
Chuki’s corner caused problems in the Cologne area and, after Jahmai Simpson-Pusey blocked Amos Pieper’s initial header, Füllkrug reacted quickest to fire home from close range.
The goal was Füllkrug’s third in four competitive appearances since returning to Werder Bremen in the summer.
Cologne pushed for a late winner through Marius Bülter and Ragnar Ache, but Werder held firm as the points were shared at the RheinEnergieStadion.
