Werder Bremen fought back from two goals down to defeat Augsburg 3-2 in a dramatic Bundesliga encounter at the Weserstadion on Saturday.
Augsburg took the lead in the 18th minute when Robin Fellhauer finished a quick counter-attack after receiving a pass from Fabian Rieder.
Bremen dominated possession but struggled to turn their control into clear-cut opportunities before the break.
The visitors doubled their advantage 13 minutes into the second half, with Calvin Brackelmann heading home from Alexis Claude-Maurice’s cross.
Bremen responded with sustained pressure and pulled one back in the 66th minute through Marco Grüll, who combined effectively with Chuki before finding the net.
Niclas Füllkrug then completed the comeback with four minutes of normal time remaining, calmly finishing with his right foot to make it 2-2.
The hosts continued pushing for a winner and were rewarded in stoppage time when substitute Mitchell Weiser struck in the 93rd minute to complete a remarkable turnaround.
Bremen had dominated the game statistically, recording 66 per cent possession and 20 shots compared with Augsburg’s six.
Their pressure intensified after the interval, when they produced 13 shots and eight on target.
Despite the defeat, Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen produced an impressive display, making seven saves to keep his side in the contest for long periods.
However, Bremen’s relentless second-half pressure eventually proved decisive as they secured all three points.
