RB Leipzig produced a dominant display on Sunday, defeating Hamburger SV 5-0 at the Red Bull Arena to extend their winning run at home in the Bundesliga.
Tidiam Gomis opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Ezechiel Banzuzi raced down the right and delivered a low cross, which the forward converted with a first-time finish.
Leipzig doubled their advantage before the half-hour mark when Antonio Nusa won possession deep in Hamburg territory before advancing towards the box.
His effort took a deflection off a recovering defender and wrong-footed goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
Hamburg struggled to respond and went into the break without registering a shot on target.
They had an opportunity to reduce the deficit early in the second half, but David Moller Wolfe’s effort was kept out by Maarten Vandevoordt.
Leipzig remained firmly in control and added three more goals in a five-minute spell late in the game.
Willi Orban headed in from Nusa’s free-kick before Christopher Nkunku fired home from inside the area to make it 4-0.
Romulo Cardoso completed the rout after dispossessing Warmed Omari, rounding Heuer Fernandes and rolling the ball into an empty net.
The victory lifted Leipzig eight places to fourth in the Bundesliga, while Hamburg dropped to the bottom after suffering their third straight defeat without scoring a goal or earning a point this season.
