Bundesliga: Dortmund sink Stuttgart 2-0

Borussia Dortmund struck twice deep into stoppage time to seal a dramatic 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart, ending Stuttgart’s seven-match unbeaten streak against Die Schwarzgelben in all competitions.

Stuttgart, who started the weekend directly above Dortmund in the Bundesliga standings, were the sharper side for much of the contest.

Chris Führich was lively throughout, testing Gregor Kobel from distance early on after recently returning to the Germany squad for the first time since November 2024.

The hosts kept pressing, with Kobel also denying Angelo Stiller, while Marcel Sabitzer had to make a crucial block to stop another Führich effort.

Despite Stuttgart’s dominance, clear chances continued to go begging. Deniz Undav fired over from a long throw, while former Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy bravely blocked a powerful strike from Führich at the other end.

Führich also wasted a promising free-kick after Undav was fouled near the edge of the area, before sending a dangerous half-volley just over the crossbar late in the first half.

Dortmund improved after the break but still struggled to threaten, with Karim Adeyemi and Fabio Silva introduced in search of a breakthrough.

As the match drifted towards a goalless finish, Stuttgart also went close through Stiller and Jamie Leweling, but neither could find the target.

The deadlock was finally broken in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Adeyemi controlled a poor clearance from Jeff Chabot before calmly finishing past Alexander Nübel.

Moments later, Julian Brandt capped a swift counterattack by blasting into the roof of the net to wrap up Dortmund’s fourth straight victory.

The win moves Dortmund 11 points clear of Stuttgart and leaves them nine behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich, while Stuttgart slip behind RB Leipzig on goal difference after suffering their first league defeat in seven matches.
