Borussia Dortmund staged a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Hoffenheim 3-2 in an entertaining Bundesliga encounter on Saturday.
Dortmund controlled possession during the early stages but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, allowing Hoffenheim to gradually grow into the contest.
The hosts came close when Adam Hložek fired narrowly wide before Serhou Guirassy was denied by goalkeeper Oliver Baumann after receiving a clever pass from Joane Gadou.
Hoffenheim also threatened at the other end, with Gregor Kobel making an important save to keep out Adam Daghim’s effort following good work from Tim Lemperle.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock when Leon Avdullahu found space outside the box and produced an excellent finish into the top-left corner.
Hoffenheim doubled their advantage shortly after the restart. Daghim won possession and played in Lemperle, whose effort took a decisive deflection off Waldemar Anton before beating Kobel.
Dortmund responded quickly, with Anton winning the ball back and setting up Guirassy, who calmly lifted the ball over the advancing Baumann to reduce the deficit.
The visitors completed their comeback moments later after substitute Fábio Silva raced beyond the Hoffenheim defence, collected Guirassy’s pass and calmly slotted the ball inside the right post.
With the match becoming increasingly open, Dortmund continued to push for a winner.
Their pressure paid off in the 87th minute when Ethan Nwaneri combined with Silva before delivering a dangerous cross. Albian Hajdari inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, handing Dortmund a dramatic 3-2 victory.
The result completed a remarkable turnaround for Dortmund, who recovered from two goals down to claim all three points away from home.
