Borussia Dortmund responded in style to their recent setback, sweeping aside Werder Bremen 3-0 in the Bundesliga on Tuesday to extend their unbeaten league run to 10 matches.
Still smarting from a dramatic 3-3 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday—where they surrendered two leads and needed a late equaliser, Dortmund showed far greater control and composure this time.
Their dominance told early, as captain Nico Schlotterbeck rose highest to nod home from a corner in the 11th minute.
Werder Bremen nearly drew level soon after, but goalkeeper Gregor Kobel produced a fine save to deny Justin Njinmah four minutes later. That proved a crucial moment as Dortmund tightened their grip on the contest.
The hosts stepped up a gear after the break and were rewarded late on. Marcel Sabitzer marked his 250th Bundesliga appearance in memorable fashion, firing a precise effort from outside the area in the 76th minute.
Substitute Serhou Guirassy then put the result beyond doubt, poking in from close range seven minutes later to complete the rout.
The victory took Dortmund to 36 points and second place, temporarily reducing Bayern Munich’s lead at the summit to eight points.
VfB Stuttgart moved up to third on 32 points after edging Frankfurt 3-2, while RB Leipzig sit fourth on 29 with two matches still to play.
Bayer Leverkusen, also on 29 points, saw their clash with Hamburg SV postponed because of heavy snowfall.
