Bayern Munich extended their flawless start to the Bundesliga season to nine consecutive wins with a commanding 3-0 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen, ending the visitors’ remarkable 37-game unbeaten streak in away league fixtures.
The clash between Germany’s two most recent champions was billed as the Bundesliga’s marquee fixture for the weekend, and while the opening minutes were surprisingly cagey, it ultimately set the stage for a dominant Bayern display.
Leverkusen initially kept the Bavarians at bay, successfully containing a side renowned for fast starts this season.
But Bayern soon found their rhythm. Midway through the first half, Serge Gnabry surged behind the defense to slot a clinical finish beneath the legs of a stranded Mark Flekken, breaking the deadlock.
Bayern rarely stop at a single goal, and Vincent Kompany’s side soon doubled their lead.
A precise wing play from Konrad Laimer delivered a perfect cross to the unmarked Nicolas Jackson, who made no mistake, heading the ball into the corner.
Jackson thought he had added a second before the break, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The hosts, however, were not to be denied a third. Loic Bade inadvertently turned Raphael Guerreiro’s cross into his own net, giving Bayern a comfortable three-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Even with such a commanding lead, Bayern pushed for more after the break. Jackson came close to a fourth when his header skimmed just wide of the post.
Kompany later introduced Harry Kane for Jackson, a substitution that further underscored the challenge Leverkusen faced, given Kane’s prolific scoring form this season.
Despite the threat, Bayern eased off in the second half, mindful of upcoming European fixtures.
Leverkusen offered little resistance as their remarkable unbeaten run ended. Christian Kofane’s miss from close range highlighted their struggles, leaving Kasper Hjulmand’s perfect start as Leverkusen manager abruptly halted.
While Bayern’s second-half intensity dipped, the result was never in doubt. The victory not only cemented their dominance in the league but also brought an end to one of the Bundesliga’s most impressive away records.
