Bundesliga: Bayern Munich beat Freiburg 3-2 in comeback win

Runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich staged a stunning late comeback to beat Freiburg 3-2, with stoppage-time strikes from youngster Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof sealing a dramatic victory at the Europa-Park Stadium.

The visitors looked destined for only their second Bundesliga defeat of the campaign after Freiburg surged into a two-goal lead through Johan Manzambi and Lucas Höler in the second half.

However, Bayern refused to give up. Bischof sparked the fightback with a powerful low strike from outside the box in the 81st minute to score his first goal for the club.

The late drama intensified in stoppage time when Bischof produced an almost identical finish in the second minute of added time to level the match at 2-2.

Just when Freiburg thought they had salvaged a point, teenage substitute Karl popped up in the ninth minute of stoppage time to turn home the winner after excellent build-up play from Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies.

Bayern, missing injured England captain Harry Kane, produced the thrilling turnaround just days before travelling to Spain for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid.

The first half had been evenly balanced, with Noah Atubolu denying Bischof and Lennart Karl, while Serge Gnabry curled narrowly wide for Bayern.

Freiburg also had chances of their own, with Philipp Treu wasting a clear opening before Manuel Neuer, returning after a four-match injury lay-off, made an excellent save to keep out Höler.

Freiburg finally broke the deadlock less than a minute into the second half when Manzambi cut in from the left and bent a fine shot beyond Neuer into the far corner.

The home side threatened to increase their advantage as Höler missed two opportunities before Bayern responded through Michael Olise, who fired wide from Bischof’s cross.

Freiburg doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Höler reacted quickest after Neuer failed to deal with Niklas Beste’s corner, smashing home from close range.

Bayern then launched their late revival, with Bischof twice finding the bottom corner from distance before Karl completed an unforgettable comeback with virtually the last kick of the game.
