Bayern Munich’s relentless march toward another Bundesliga title gathered further pace with a crushing 5-0 victory over St. Pauli at the Millerntor-Stadion, a result that saw them surpass their long-standing single-season goals record of 101 set in 1971/72.
The win also extended their unbeaten league run to 10 matches.
With one eye on their UEFA Champions League clash against Real Madrid, manager Vincent Kompany rotated heavily, making seven changes to his starting XI. Despite that, Bayern wasted little time asserting control.
It took just nine minutes for the visitors to open the scoring, as Konrad Laimer delivered a pinpoint cross for Jamal Musiala, who powered home a header beyond Nikola Vasilj. The goal drew Bayern level with their historic scoring mark.
Michael Olise soon had the chance to break the record but dragged his effort wide, while Musiala came agonisingly close to doubling the lead midway through the first half, only to see his effort strike the post and roll along the goal line.
St. Pauli threatened briefly and could have equalised, but Kim Min-jae produced a superb last-ditch block to deny Mathias Pereira Lage with Manuel Neuer beaten.
Joel Chima Fujita also tested Neuer, though without real danger, as Bayern held a narrow 1-0 lead at the break.
The hosts started the second half brightly, with Andreas Hountondji forcing a save from Neuer, but Bayern quickly took full control.
Their record-breaking 102nd league goal arrived when a Joshua Kimmich free-kick was inadvertently flicked into the path of Leon Goretzka, who volleyed home with authority.
Moments later, Goretzka turned provider, winning possession high up the pitch before Michael Olise calmly curled in Bayern’s third.
The floodgates had opened. Nicolas Jackson missed a presentable chance, but soon made amends when Musiala set him up to slot home Bayern’s fourth after another high turnover.
With the result beyond doubt, Bayern eased off but still found time to add a fifth late on, as Raphael Guerreiro capitalised on defensive hesitation to round off a dominant display.
The victory marked Bayern’s eighth straight win over St. Pauli, while the hosts’ struggles continued with a fifth consecutive game without a win, their best chance of a consolation coming from a long-range effort by Connor Metcalfe.
