Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said the country is moving into an era of prosperity following the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
She made the statement on Saturday during the South-East Women Mega Empowerment Rally organised by the All Progressives Congress Women Mobilisation Directorate in Enugu State as part of activities supporting the President’s re-election campaign.
Speaking in Pidgin English, the First Lady said her husband had asked her to reassure Nigerians that the country was moving beyond the reform stage towards economic prosperity.
“Mr President say make I greet everybody. You know why? He say make I tell una say we don do reforms, na prosperity we dey now,” she said.
She compared the country’s transition to the final stage of pregnancy, expressing optimism that Nigerians would soon begin to experience the benefits of government policies.
“You know that when a woman is pregnant, e go dey wonder when the pikin go come. You know that we are pushing into prosperity,” she added.
Defending the administration’s empowerment programmes, Remi Tinubu said the government was focused on delivering tangible results rather than making promises.
“We no dey talk, talk, talk and talk alone. I hear una say, talk and do. And you know say e dey pain dem o but e dey sweet us,” she stated.
The First Lady also announced plans to provide financial support to women in the South-East, disclosing that 250 women would receive ₦200,000 each to establish or expand their businesses.
She further announced an empowerment programme for 250 elderly women scheduled for December 17, saying the initiatives would extend to 750 beneficiaries across the five states in the region.
According to her, another empowerment initiative would be held on December 3 to support senatorial candidates in providing assistance to persons with disabilities in commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Remi Tinubu urged APC candidates in the region to ensure that the programmes were implemented as announced.
She also appealed to residents of the South-East to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid and vote for other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The First Lady said she had visited the region several times since her husband assumed office and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting women and other vulnerable groups.
She also challenged the audience to identify similar empowerment initiatives undertaken by other presidential candidates.
