Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is set to preach at Lambeth Palace on Thursday as part of events marking the state visit of President Bola Tinubu to the United Kingdom.
Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury and a key centre of the Church of England, will host the First Lady during the engagement, which also includes meetings with church leaders.
According to details from the official itinerary, Mrs Tinubu will interact with representatives of the Church of England, further highlighting the role of faith-based diplomacy in strengthening international ties.
“This visit presents an opportunity to deepen engagements not only at the governmental level but also within faith communities,” a source familiar with the programme said.
The ongoing visit marks Nigeria’s first state visit to the United Kingdom in nearly 40 years and is aimed at reinforcing diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
President Tinubu and the First Lady arrived in London earlier in the week, landing at Stansted Airport ahead of a series of high-level engagements.
During the visit, the President is expected to hold talks with King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, alongside meetings with members of the Nigerian diaspora.
Mrs Tinubu, an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has been actively involved in faith-based initiatives and women-focused programmes, both within Nigeria and internationally.
A member of the presidential delegation noted, “Her participation in this engagement reflects her longstanding commitment to faith and social development, as well as her role in promoting Nigeria’s soft diplomacy abroad.”
