Toluwanisings’ widow succumbs to burying late husband at residence

The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer, Toluwanisings, Damilola Olayemi, has reportedly agreed to have her husband’s remains buried at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a disagreement with his family over his burial arrangements.

The development was disclosed by the singer’s close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, in an Instagram video on Sunday, amid growing controversy surrounding the burial plans.

The disagreement reportedly began after the singer’s family alleged in a viral online interview that Olayemi had rejected their proposal to bury him at his Ibadan residence, insisting instead that he should be laid to rest in a cemetery.

However, the singer’s father reportedly opposed the widow’s preference, maintaining that his son’s remains should be taken to his hometown and buried close to his late mother if burial at his Ibadan residence was not possible.

The disagreement generated widespread reactions on social media, with some users questioning the widow’s decision and calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

Speaking on the matter, Alewilese described the disagreement between the widow and her father-in-law as a misunderstanding that had now been resolved. He also appealed to Nigerians to stop attacking Olayemi, noting that she was already going through a difficult period.

He said, “Please for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this.

“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding. The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house. Please, Nigerians, let there be peace. If you truly love the singer, let his wife have peace now that his burial place has been resolved.”
