First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to renew their sense of unity and shared purpose, stressing that the nation cannot progress if divided.
She made the call on Thursday while receiving an honour at the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards 2025 in Abuja.
Addressing an audience that included former heads of state, top government officials, and prominent dignitaries, Mrs. Tinubu dedicated the award to women, young people, and community leaders across the country.
“The future of our nation depends on our willingness to work together across cultural and religious differences for the good of all,” she said. “For a house divided against itself cannot stand.”
The First Lady noted that the recognition from the Leadership Newspaper board was not a personal triumph but a collective achievement.
“I do not take this honour alone,” she said, acknowledging the support she has received throughout her journey.
“This award is for all those who have helped me along the way, especially women, young people and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to uplift others and ignite hope in our nation.”
She also commended the Chairman of Leadership Newspaper, Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah, for sustaining the legacy of the late founder, Sam Nda-Isaiah.
“I believe that looking down today, he would be proud of you for keeping the fire of this organisation burning,” she said, praising the publication’s continued commitment to journalism that strengthens democracy.
The event was attended by governors from Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Yobe and Zamfara states, traditional rulers, senior government officials, and international figures.
Mrs. Tinubu offered special praise to the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Dr. Amina Mohammed, whose keynote address she described as impactful.
“Your reflections offered practical guidance and clarity on the choices we are called upon to make as a nation,” she said, applauding Dr. Mohammed’s long-standing dedication to Africa’s development.
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, the First Lady said it offered an opportunity to celebrate excellence and extend gratitude as the year began.
She concluded by dedicating the award to Nigerians who continue to uphold values of compassion and service.
“I dedicate this award to every citizen who believes that selflessness and humaneness can truly change lives,” she said, urging Nigerians to join hands in building the nation they aspire to see.
