Tinubu orders manhunt after killing of Katsina Islamic preacher

President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, in Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, directing security agencies to ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.

The two men were reportedly shot dead by gunmen in a drive-by attack on Monday evening.

Tinubu expressed his displeasure over the incident in a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The President described the attack as a grave violation of human life and the values of peaceful coexistence.

“The President, who was deeply saddened by the news of the killing, described the act as heinous and an assault on the values of peace and sanctity of human life,” the statement said.

Tinubu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, the cleric’s followers and the government and people of Katsina State.

He also instructed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to step up efforts to identify and apprehend the suspects.

“The President has directed the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to move swiftly, intensify efforts already underway by the Katsina State Police Command, and ensure the perpetrators are tracked down, apprehended, and brought to justice,” the statement added.

The President further prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and urged God to grant their families, followers and other grieving individuals the strength to bear the loss.

The killings have renewed concerns over insecurity in Katsina State and other parts of the North-West, where armed groups have continued to carry out attacks, abductions and killings in several communities.

However, the Presidency did not provide additional details about the circumstances of the shooting or disclose whether any arrests had been made as of Tuesday.
