Carter Efe, Phyna win celebrity boxiInternet personality Carter Efe and reality TV star Phyna have emerged victorious in the headline bouts of the “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Edition held in Lagos.
The celebrity boxing event took place on Thursday at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
Carter Efe secured a stoppage victory over rapper Speed Darlington after the referee ended their four-round contest when Speed was unable to continue.
The victory extends Efe’s unbeaten record in the celebrity boxing series, following his earlier win over singer Portable.
Speaking after the bout, Efe attributed his victory to the support of his partner, Taylor Jasmine.
“My woman, Taylor Jasmine. She’s the one that gave me the strength to win because I didn’t even train for this fight. Man, it wasn’t easy,” he said.
Efe also called for an international opponent, saying he was no longer interested in facing the same Nigerian entertainers.
“I want an international opponent. I am tired of Akpi Speed Darlington and Portable. I want to fight with DDG. They are boxers. I want to fight with Mayweather,” he said.
The entertainer, however, said he would not immediately return to the ring, noting that his next bout would come after his marriage to Taylor Jasmine.
“When I get married to Taylor Jasmine, that’s when I’ll fight my next fight,” he said.
Phyna Stops Nkechi Blessing
In the female celebrity bout, Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna defeated actress Nkechi Blessing by stoppage in the fourth and final round.
Phyna relied on her movement and speed during the early stages before eventually landing a punch that sent the actress to the canvas.
Nkechi Blessing was unable to beat the referee’s count, bringing the contest to an end.
Phyna was rewarded with ₦50 million, a championship belt and a new car.
Following her victory, Phyna challenged actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was at the venue.
Phyna alleged that Etinosa had previously sent her messages before challenging her to a boxing contest. Etinosa reportedly accepted the challenge.
The bout between Phyna and Nkechi Blessing followed weeks of public exchanges between the two entertainers, which later developed into a boxing rivalry.
Meanwhile, the event also featured a professional boxing contest in which Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah defeated Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah by unanimous decision to win the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship.
