Immigration to probe delayed passports of Nigerians in UK

The Nigeria Immigration Service has appealed to Nigerians in the United Kingdom who applied for passports through its Contactless Passport Application system but are yet to receive their documents to submit their details for investigation and resolution.

The NIS made this known on Sunday through a post on its official X handle, directing affected applicants to complete a Contactless Passport Application Resolution Form.

The Service said the information provided would help it identify and resolve outstanding passport-related complaints.

“Are you in the United Kingdom and have completed your Contactless Passport Application but yet to receive your passport?

“Kindly submit your details using the form below.

“The Service values your patience and understanding as we are currently working to resolve all issues,” the NIS stated.

Applicants are expected to provide information including their full names, contact details, application and reference numbers, as well as their current location in the UK.

They are also required to indicate whether they submitted a self-addressed envelope containing their old passports to the Nigerian High Commission and whether they have tracked the status of their applications.

The immigration authorities said complaints submitted through the resolution form would be collated and reviewed within three working days of submission.

The latest move follows the NIS’ recent announcement of a passport intervention exercise in four UK cities to address pending applications and assist Nigerians requiring new passports, renewals and other related services.

The intervention is scheduled to take place in London and Manchester from September 7 to 19, while officials will attend to applicants in Aberdeen and Cardiff from September 21 to 26.

The NIS said the exercise was designed to tackle the backlog of passport applications and other unresolved issues affecting Nigerians in the UK.

It advised applicants seeking fresh passports or renewals to complete their applications and make the required payments through the NIS Passport Application portal before attending the intervention exercise.
