Manchester City saw their Premier League title ambitions suffer a setback after being held to a 2–2 draw by struggling Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium, with the visitors twice fighting back to snatch a valuable point.
City looked on course for victory on two occasions, but Forest showed resilience to respond each time and deny Pep Guardiola’s side maximum points.
The hosts opened the scoring when Antoine Semenyo finished well after being picked out inside the box by Rayan Cherki.
However, Forest restored parity before the break through Morgan Gibbs-White, who cleverly back-heeled the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma after a headed knockdown from Igor Jesus.
City regained the lead shortly after the hour mark when Rodri powered home a header from a corner delivered by Rayan Aït-Nouri. Forest protested that goalkeeper Matz Sels had been impeded, but the goal stood.
The visitors refused to fold and found a second equaliser 14 minutes from time. Elliot Anderson combined neatly with Callum Hudson-Odoi before curling a fine strike from outside the box into the bottom corner.
Both sides had chances late on to win the game. Ryan Yates headed narrowly wide in stoppage time for Forest, while Sels produced a crucial save to tip over a Semenyo free-kick.
At the other end, Savinho was denied in a dramatic goalmouth scramble with the final kick of the match.
The result leaves City seven points behind league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League title race, although they still have a game in hand and a crucial meeting with the Gunners scheduled for April 19.
Forest, now managed by Vítor Pereira, are still searching for their first league win under the Portuguese coach but the spirited display will boost their hopes of avoiding relegation, with the club currently outside the bottom three only on goal difference.
