Bundesliga: Bayern humiliate Wolfsburg 8-1@w

Bayern Munich made a ruthless return from the winter break, thrashing Wolfsburg 8–1 in the Bundesliga to tighten their grip on the top spot, with Michael Olise scoring twice and the visitors contributing two record-setting own goals.

The champions, now on 44 points and 11 clear of Borussia Dortmund, went ahead inside five minutes when Luis Díaz’s low cutback was inadvertently turned into the net by Kilian Fischer.

The goal marked a Bundesliga record, as it was the third straight league match in which Wolfsburg had scored an own goal.

Wolfsburg briefly hit back in the 15th minute, with Dzenan Pejcinovic finishing off a slick passing move to draw the visitors level.

Bayern soon regained control, however, as Díaz nodded home an Olise cross on the half-hour for his ninth league goal of the season.

Olise, already the division’s top assist provider with nine, then added his own name to the scoresheet, curling in a fine effort to restore a two-goal cushion.

The misery deepened for Wolfsburg shortly after the restart when Moritz Jenz diverted another Olise cutback into his own net, their fourth own goal across the last three league games.

Bayern continued to pour forward, with Olise striking the post before substitute Raphael Guerreiro and Bundesliga top scorer Harry Kane netted twice in quick succession, 80 seconds apart.

Olise capped a standout display in his 50th Bundesliga appearance for Bayern by grabbing his second goal of the night in the 76th minute.

Substitute Leon Goretzka then rounded off the rout late on, flicking in from a tight angle to seal Bayern’s biggest-ever Bundesliga win over Wolfsburg.

The result extended Bayern’s remarkable home dominance in the fixture, as they remain unbeaten against Wolfsburg in Munich, with 27 wins and two draws from 29 league meetings.
