UCL: Flick defends tactics after Barcelona, Brugge draw

Barcelona boss, Hansi Flick, has stood by his tactical approach following his team’s 3-3 draw against Club Brugge in Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter.

The German manager maintained that he would not abandon his trademark attacking philosophy despite growing criticism.

At the Jan Breydel Stadium, the Catalans had to claw their way back three times after conceding goals that all stemmed from Brugge exploiting their high defensive line.

The result extended Barça’s run without a clean sheet to nine matches, further fueling debate about Flick’s high-risk setup.

“We want to play to our DNA; we don’t want a low block and transitions to win 1-0, but [I accept] 3-3 is not the best result for us,” Flick told reporters after the match.

“We came back after every goal, though, this is positive, but we have to speak about this match.

“In midfield, we do have not the pressure on the ball and we don’t win the duels, so it’s not easy for our last line to defend these fast players. We have to work on that, analyse everything. We will speak with the players.”
