Liverpool produced a stunning comeback to end their four-match losing streak with a commanding 5-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Wednesday’s Champions League clash.
Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, and Dominik Szoboszlai sealed a memorable night for Arne Slot’s men in Germany, while Florian Wirtz finally picked up his first assist since joining from Bayer Leverkusen.
Slot made five changes from the side that lost to Manchester United on Sunday, and his team almost struck early as Alexander Isak forced two fine saves from Michael Zetterer inside the opening 10 minutes.
However, Frankfurt drew first blood when Rasmus Kristensen finished off a swift counterattack after Wirtz had given the ball away in midfield.
Liverpool responded with intent, and Zetterer denied Conor Bradley from close range before Ekitike leveled the score against his former team, latching onto Andrew Robertson’s precise pass to slot home.
The Reds completed a rapid turnaround before halftime, with Van Dijk and Konate both heading in from corners to make it 3-1.
With momentum firmly on their side, Liverpool dominated after the break. Federico Chiesa volleyed narrowly wide, and Bradley’s powerful drive struck the post before Gakpo added a fourth from close range following neat interplay between Szoboszlai and Wirtz.
Szoboszlai then capped off the rout with a thunderous 25-yard strike into the bottom corner.
It was a statement performance from Slot’s side, a timely reminder of Liverpool’s attacking power and resilience on the European stage.
