UCL: Dortmund edge Real Betis 2-1

Borussia Dortmund secured a 2-1 victory over Spanish side Real Betis in the UEFA Champions League league phase on Tuesday night, with Konstantinos Karetsas scoring the decisive goal at Signal Iduna Park.

The German side claimed all three points after a dramatic second half in which Fabio Silva and Karetsas scored to secure the victory.

Dortmund took the lead in the 49th minute when Portuguese forward Fabio Silva capitalised on an opportunity in front of goal to put the hosts ahead.

Betis responded in the 67th minute through Aitor Ruibal, who restored parity for the visitors and raised hopes of securing a positive result away from home.

However, Dortmund quickly regained the advantage, with Karetsas finding the net five minutes later to make it 2-1.

The German side held on despite late attempts by Betis to find another equaliser.

The victory moved Dortmund to nine points in the Champions League league phase after four matches.

They had previously defeated Villarreal and Sabah but suffered a defeat against Bodø/Glimt.

Betis also remained on nine points despite suffering their first defeat in the competition, having won their opening three matches.

The encounter was the first competitive meeting between both sides, although they previously played a friendly in August 2015, which Dortmund won 2-0.

Dortmund will travel to face Arsenal in their next league-phase fixture on November 24, while Betis will take on Slovan Bratislava away from home on the same date.
