UCL: Fenerbahce shock Liverpool 3-2 in Istanbul thriller

Fenerbahce came from behind to defeat Liverpool 3-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter in Turkey on Wednesday, handing the English side another disappointing result following their weekend loss to Arsenal.

Liverpool took the lead in the 24th minute through Trey Nyoni, who finished calmly to give Andoni Iraola’s side an early advantage.

However, the hosts responded swiftly, with Mason Greenwood restoring parity four minutes later after capitalising on poor defending.

The contest intensified after the break, with Liverpool regaining the lead in the 68th minute.

Substitute Alexander Isak converted Cody Gakpo’s delivery to put the visitors ahead for the second time in the match.

Fenerbahce, however, refused to surrender as Archie Brown levelled the score in the 72nd minute, finding space in the Liverpool defence before firing past goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

The Turkish side completed their comeback six minutes later when substitute Vedat Muriqi took advantage of Liverpool’s defensive disorganisation to score the decisive goal, sealing a memorable 3-2 victory for Fenerbahce in front of their home supporters.
