Teenager Christian Kofane continued his breakthrough week in style, netting his first-ever Bundesliga goal as Bayer Leverkusen cruised to a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday, climbing into the top four.
Despite the absence of injured talisman Patrik Schick, Leverkusen eventually found their rhythm, with Ernest Poku opening the scoring from close range after a flowing team move.
Kofane, a 19-year-old Cameroon U-20 international, doubled the lead just four minutes into the second half, capitalising on a costly error from Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow to seal the points.
The young forward’s strike arrived only days after he opened his Champions League account in a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven, marking a remarkable rise in form for the teenager.
Leverkusen, last season’s German double winners, have rediscovered stability under new coach Kasper Hjulmand, remaining unbeaten in four league matches since the departure of Erik ten Hag.
The win lifted them to fourth place on 11 points, just four adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.
