The Olubadan-in-Council is set to begin official deliberations on the coronation of former Oyo State Governor, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to The PUNCH, the high-level meeting is scheduled to take place at the Olubadan Palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area, on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
This development follows the conclusion of the traditional 21-day mourning period observed in honour of the late 43rd Olubadan, Oba Mohood Lekan Balogun, who passed away on July 7, 2025.
A formal notice of the meeting, signed by the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, confirmed that all members of the Olubadan-in-Council are expected to be in attendance for what is expected to be a pivotal discussion on the succession process.
“The meeting is to formally begin the process of enthroning the next Olubadan, as tradition demands. All high chiefs have been duly notified,” a palace source disclosed.
The Olubadan-designate, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, who has been receiving condolence visits at his Lagos residence since the passing of his predecessor, is expected to return to Ibadan this weekend in readiness for Monday’s meeting.
“Ladoja’s return marks a significant step in the transition process. We anticipate a smooth and unanimous decision from the council,” the palace source added.
If approved, Ladoja will become the 44th monarch in the revered lineage of Ibadan kingship—a system known for its unique ascension structure and deep-rooted traditional values.
