The Olubadan-designate of Ibadanland, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, has promised to revisit his alma mater, Ibadan Boys’ High School, to teach Mathematics and Physics after his coronation as the 44th Olubadan.
Ladoja gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the school’s management team, led by Principal Rasheed Fasasi, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The former Oyo State governor recalled his days as both a student and teacher at the institution, saying the forthcoming visit would give him an opportunity to inspire the younger generation.
“Beyond being an old student of this great school, I was also privileged to serve as a teacher here, handling Mathematics and Physics. After my coronation, I will return to the classroom, not just as a monarch but as a mentor to the students,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the principal and staff for keeping the school’s standards high.
Principal Fasasi, in his remarks, described Ladoja’s promise as historic and morale-boosting.
“Having our monarch return to stand before the students as a teacher will rekindle their pride and motivate them to greater heights. It shows His Highness has not forgotten his roots,” he said.
Ladoja, who held the title of Osi Olubadan before emerging as the Olubadan-designate, ascended to the position following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, in March 2024. His coronation will mark him as the 44th traditional ruler of Ibadanland.
Aside from his political career between 2003 and 2007 as governor, Ladoja is respected for his deep involvement in Ibadan’s traditional hierarchy and his strong defense of the city’s unique succession system, which rotates between two chieftaincy lines—Otun and Balogun.
