Presidency fingers past PDP presidents for Nigeria’s economic woes

The spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has blamed the current economic difficulties in Nigeria on the decisions made by former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Umar Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan.

Onanuga issued the statement on Monday, accusing the former leaders of mismanaging the country’s economy.

He argued that the ongoing economic crisis faced by the All Progressives Congress administration since 2015 is largely a result of poor economic policies implemented by the previous PDP administrations.

Onanuga also criticised Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar, for undermining Nigeria’s public universities, claiming they sought to benefit personally by establishing private universities, according to Daily Post.

This statement follows recent comments by Obasanjo, who had criticized President Tinubu’s economic approach, labeling it as ineffective and suggesting that the world views it as a failure.

According to Onanuga, “The current economic crisis the All Progressives Congress administrations have been battling since 2015 is the product of the poor choices in economic management made by Obasanjo and the two successors from his party.

“In a joint vote of no confidence in our tertiary institutions, Obasanjo and his deputy, Atiku Abubakar, sought to profit from their weaknesses by establishing their private universities.”
