EPL: Newcastle shock Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge

Newcastle United inflicted a second Premier League defeat in four days on Chelsea, claiming a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge thanks to Anthony Gordon’s first-half strike.

Chelsea, still reeling from a 5-2 Champions League hammering at Paris Saint-Germain, were caught out early. Joe Willock exploited the offside trap before teeing up Gordon, who calmly slotted home in the 18th minute.

The home crowd, frustrated by their side’s struggles, booed Chelsea off at halftime. The Blues increased their urgency after the break, but Newcastle’s disciplined defence held firm.

Their resilience nearly paid off with a late scare for the visitors, as Reece James rattled the post from a free kick in the 93rd minute.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in fifth place, with rivals Manchester United, Aston Villa, and Liverpool still to play on Sunday. Newcastle, meanwhile, celebrated their first win at Stamford Bridge since 2012, climbing three spots to ninth in the table.

For Liam Rosenior, the focus now shifts back to Europe, as his side face the daunting task of overturning a three-goal deficit against PSG in the Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday.
