Russia launched one of its biggest attacks on Ukraine, firing 70 missiles alongside drones at targets across the country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, the strikes reportedly focused on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and killed at least 11 people, with several areas affected by the overnight barrage.
“One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively,” Zelenskyy said on Telegram.
He added that Russian ballistic missiles remained a major threat to Ukraine and stressed the urgent need for additional air defence systems.
“Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defence packages for us right now are a vital necessity,” Zelenskyy said.
The latest attack comes amid Russia’s continued war against Ukraine, with energy facilities remaining a key target as Moscow maintains pressure on the country’s infrastructure.
The reported scale of Wednesday’s strike made it one of the largest Russian attacks on Ukraine in recent times, according to Zelenskyy.
