Former Liverpool midfielder, Didi Hamann, has cast doubt on Arsenal’s chances of lifting the Premier League title this season, citing their lack of experience in title-winning situations.
Hamann’s comments come after Manchester City’s comfortable 3–0 win over Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, a result that cut Arsenal’s lead at the summit to three points.
The Gunners are scheduled to face Brentford later today as the title race intensifies.
Despite Arsenal’s strong position, Hamann believes the team may struggle to cope with the pressure of the run-in, especially against a side like City that has a proven record of winning major honours.
“For the Arsenal players, they haven’t been Premier League champions. And unless you do it, you don’t know you’re capable of doing it. So, I think there will be a few edgy moments.
“But I think they probably watched Man City beat Liverpool, I think it would have been a huge blow to them, but it makes a big difference to go from losing the game to winning it in four or five minutes. Yeah, I think it’s far from over. I don’t think City are great.
“It’s not the City we used to see, but they find a way of winning games, and they know how to win the league.
“They know how to win titles because they’ve got some Premier League winners in the ranks. Yeah, I think it’s game on.”
