The West African Examinations Council has extended the registration deadline for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates, Second Series.
The Punch reported that the examination body announced the development on Saturday through its official X handle, giving prospective candidates additional time to complete the registration process.
“Registration for the WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2026 – Second Series has now been extended to Friday, 28 August 2026,” the council said.
WAEC urged interested candidates to make use of the extension and conclude their registration before the new deadline.
The examination, popularly known as WAEC GCE, is designed for individuals who are not currently enrolled in regular secondary schools but wish to obtain or improve their O’Level results.
According to the council, the 2026 second-series examination will be conducted entirely through Computer-Based Examination.
Registration for the examination remains N37,000, while the examination is scheduled to hold between September and October 2026.
WAEC also advised candidates to visit the nearest WAEC office in their respective states to verify available examination towns before proceeding with registration.
Registration for the examination began on May 4, 2026, with the initial deadline set for July 31.
The latest extension therefore gives prospective candidates more time to register for the examination.
