Napoli were left frustrated on Tuesday night after being held to a goalless draw by Eintracht Frankfurt in a dull Champions League encounter at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
Still smarting from a heavy 6-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in their previous outing, the Italian side managed to keep a clean sheet but failed to capitalize on their home advantage, leaving them with four points in the group, the same tally as Frankfurt.
The German visitors, who had seen all three of their earlier matches finish 5-1, showed more defensive discipline this time around to claim a valuable point.
Frankfurt spent much of the game sitting deep and waiting for opportunities on the break. Jean-Matteo Bahoya had a chance early on but could only fire straight at Napoli’s goalkeeper, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
Despite dominating possession, Napoli struggled to find creativity in the final third. Eljif Elmas weaved his way into the box after a clever solo run, but his weak shot went harmlessly into the arms of Michael Zetterer.
Milinkovic-Savic kept Napoli level with an impressive save to deny Ansgar Knauff from close range, while substitute Scott McTominay missed a golden chance late on, firing over from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa’s low cross.
The result means Napoli will now turn their focus to their next Champions League fixture at home to Qarabag on November 25, while Frankfurt will host Atalanta a day later.
