Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded fresh operational gains in renewed offensives against terrorism and banditry across parts of the North-West, rescuing abducted civilians, recovering rustled livestock, and seizing arms in separate missions in Sokoto State and Katsina State.
According to a military statement, the operations—carried out between 21 and 22 June 2026—were based on actionable intelligence and supported by aerial surveillance, leading to successful engagements with armed groups in multiple locations.
In the first incident on 21 June, troops repelled an attempted infiltration of Tureta by armed terrorists. The attackers were forced to retreat following a swift response from ground forces.
Subsequent aerial tracking reportedly located the fleeing suspects at Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were found moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.
Troops pursued the group despite an attempted ambush and engaged them in a firefight, compelling the criminals to disperse.
The operation led to the rescue of abductees, recovery of cattle, and seizure of two motorcycles used by the assailants.
In a separate dawn raid on 22 June, troops stormed a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area.
The surprise offensive overwhelmed the occupants, resulting in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others escaped with injuries.
Items recovered from the hideout included one PKT machine gun, one AK-47 rifle with ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile phones, rustled livestock, and other materials believed to support criminal operations.
A military spokesperson described the operations as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore stability in the region.
“Our troops acted on credible intelligence and maintained relentless pressure on criminal elements. These successes reflect their professionalism, courage, and commitment to securing communities,” said Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
He added that operations would continue across the North-West until all criminal hideouts are neutralised and displaced communities are fully secured.
