Troops foil suspected terrorist attack, recover AK-47 in Kaduna

Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a suspected terrorist attack and recovered an AK-47 rifle during operations in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The operations, carried out between September 23 and 24, 2026, also led to the arrest of a suspected criminal and the recovery of ammunition and other items.

The Media Information Officer of the JTF North-West, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.

Danja said troops of Sector 1 received intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists through bushes around Rijana in Kachia LGA.

He said the troops moved to the area, positioned themselves in an ambush and engaged the suspects after sighting them.

“Following the engagement, troops conducted a follow-up exploitation of the general area, leading to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition,” Danja said.

He added that troops also recovered a magazine carrier and a military jungle hat during the operation.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops carried out a clearance operation in Awom village, also in Kachia, to prevent terrorists and other criminal elements from using the community as a hideout.

According to Danja, the operation resulted in the arrest of a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was allegedly found with a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.

He said the suspect remained in military custody and was assisting investigators with the ongoing probe.

The JTF spokesperson said the Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance and prompt response during the operations.

Danja added, “The troops remain resolute in sustaining offensive and clearance operations to thwart terrorist activities, deny criminal elements freedom of action and protect communities within the Joint Operations Area.”
