Jannik Sinner delivered a masterclass performance to defeat Novak Djokovic in straight sets, sealing his spot in the Wimbledon final where he will face defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.
The world number one was in dominant form as he powered past Djokovic 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court, booking his place in a fourth consecutive Grand Slam final and his first ever at the All England Club.
The 23-year-old Italian will now have the opportunity to settle the score with world number two Alcaraz, who edged him in a dramatic French Open final last month, where Sinner missed three championship points.
Together, Sinner and Alcaraz have emerged as the dominant forces in men’s tennis, sharing the last six Grand Slam titles between them.
For Djokovic, the loss ends his impressive streak of reaching every Wimbledon final since 2018. The seven-time champion, who appeared to be struggling physically, will have to wait for another chance to claim a record-extending 25th major and to match Roger Federer’s men’s record of eight Wimbledon crowns.
“It’s a tournament I always watched when I was young on the television and I would have never imagined that I can play here, you know in the finals, so it was amazing,” said Sinner.
“From my side, I served very well today, I felt great on court, I was moving really well today.
“We saw in the third set that he was a bit injured. He’s been in a very difficult situation but I tried to stay calm, to play the best tennis I can.”
