Vice President, Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States.
The summit, scheduled to hold at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, will bring together Heads of State and Government, ministers, senior government officials and key regional stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting West Africa.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, the meeting will focus on strengthening regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges confronting member states.
“The summit will consider major policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at reinforcing the commitment of member states to peace, democracy, economic growth and regional integration,” the statement said.
It added that the meeting forms part of ECOWAS’ statutory mid-year engagements and will provide an opportunity for leaders to advance discussions on security, democratic governance, trade, infrastructure, economic integration and sustainable development across the sub-region.
“The gathering will also enable member states to review progress on regional priorities and adopt measures to deepen cooperation in critical sectors,” the statement noted.
Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after concluding his official engagements at the summit.
The ECOWAS meeting comes amid evolving political, economic and security developments across West Africa, with leaders expected to adopt resolutions aimed at promoting stability, economic cooperation and sustainable development within the region.
