Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State, on Wednesday ahead of the 2026 Jigawa Investment Summit, which is scheduled to run from July 1 to July 2.
The Vice President touched down at Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi International Airport, where he was welcomed by Governor Umar Namadi, Deputy Governor Aminu Gumel and the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Murtala Garo.
Also present to receive him were the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, members of the Jigawa State Executive Council and other senior government officials.
As the Special Guest of Honour, Shettima is expected to formally declare the summit open. The event is themed, “Unlocking Opportunities: Driving Sustainable Growth for a Better Jigawa.”
The two-day gathering is designed to highlight Jigawa’s investment prospects to both domestic and foreign investors, while advancing the state government’s agenda of economic growth, investment attraction and employment generation.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Vice President will participate in high-level engagements with policymakers, development partners, entrepreneurs, financial institutions and industry stakeholders to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the state’s economy.
Jigawa State Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, said the summit would focus on agriculture, renewable energy, micro, small and medium enterprises, light manufacturing, education and healthcare.
Musa said the government was determined to mobilise investments for agricultural transformation and harness alternative energy potential for sustainable development.
He added that the summit would also focus on positioning MSMEs as drivers of industrialisation and strengthening public-private partnerships in the education and health sectors.
“Jigawa State is blessed with vast economic potential, a peaceful business environment, fertile agricultural land, an energetic youth population and growing infrastructure that position our state as a prime destination for local and international investors,” he said.
