The House of Representatives committee investigating the activities of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has declared the appointment letter presented by the council’s self-styled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to be fraudulent.
The Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, Yusuf Gagdi, made this known on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja.
Gagdi said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for the second time, also confirmed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi were not genuine.
He said, “It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established.”
Walson-Jack appeared before the lawmakers following a summons requiring her to make her final submissions on the matter.
Representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, were also present at the proceedings on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police.
However, Adeyemi was absent from the hearing.
The committee had earlier raised concerns over the alleged establishment and activities of the purported council, describing them as a serious breach.
It subsequently directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi before the panel within 48 hours.
The lawmakers said his presence was important to clarify how the organisation allegedly secured official recognition and was able to conduct government correspondence despite questions surrounding its legitimacy.
The investigation into the alleged operations of the council is ongoing.
