The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has recommended the prosecution of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council following preliminary findings in its ongoing investigation into the controversial agency.
ICPC Chairman, Musa Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday afterTt presenting an interim report to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The report was submitted 30 days after the President directed the anti-corruption agency to investigate allegations surrounding the establishment and operations of the PFIPC.
According to Aliyu, the commission’s investigation found no evidence that Adeyemi was officially appointed by the Federal Government.
“Our preliminary findings indicate that Adeniyi Adeyemi was never appointed by the Federal Government,”R Aliyu said.
He added that documents presented to support the creation of the agency, including an appointment letter, official gazette and other records, were found to be forged.
“The purported appointment letter, gazette and other documents used to establish the agency were forged,” he stated.
Aliyu said the findings informed the commission’s recommendation that Adeyemi be prosecuted over the alleged offences.
The investigation centres on allegations of forgery and corruption linked to the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, the whose legitimacy has come under scrutiny in recent weeks.
The ICPC said investigations into the matter are ongoing and that additional findings may be made public as the probe progresses.
