Police to resume tinted glass permit enforcement Jan 2

The Nigeria Police Force will resume enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy from 2nd January 2026, the Force has announced.

This was contained in a statement by the Force spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who explained that the decision follows a review of emerging security concerns and the need to ensure the safety of all citizens.

“Recent trends indicate that some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass to conceal their identities and commit crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping,” Hundeyin said.

“It is therefore necessary and urgent for the Force to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities.”

The spokesperson noted that the court had never restrained the Police from enforcing the law, but enforcement was temporarily suspended to give motorists ample time to regularise their documentation.

IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun assured the public that enforcement would be conducted professionally and in line with existing laws.

“We remain committed to promoting public safety and upholding the rule of law while respecting the rights of citizens,” he said.

Motorists are encouraged to apply for the Tinted Glass Permit through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements.
