The Sokoto State Police Command has announced that it will commence full enforcement of the tinted glass permit requirement for motorists on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
This decision comes after the expiration of the grace period earlier granted to vehicle owners to complete their applications in line with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the enforcement in a statement on Tuesday.
He urged motorists to process their permits only through the official portal, warning against falling victim to fraudulent agents.
“The Command strongly advises members of the public to conduct all transactions only through the official portal at possap.gov.ng and be wary of unauthorised individuals who may attempt to exploit this process for personal gain,” Rufai cautioned.
He explained that the application process requires account creation using either a National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number, or Tax Identification Number, Applicants must then verify their accounts, input vehicle details, upload necessary documents, make payment, and complete verification through inspection and biometric capture.
According to him, biometric capturing for motorists in Sokoto will take place at the State Intelligence Department, Police Headquarters, Gwandu Road, Sokoto.
“The exercise is free of charge, and we remain committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring the safety of citizens and road users across the state,” Rufai added.
The enforcement deadline has been shifted several times this year. Initially, motorists were given 30 days from May 1 to obtain the permit or regularise existing ones.
The deadline was later extended to August 12 before the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, moved it to October 2, citing the surge in applications and the need to encourage compliance.
