The Ogun State Police Command says three persons will be arraigned before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court over the alleged assault and obstruction of police officers carrying out their duties.
The suspects are 51-year-old Alaba Mulika, 21-year-old Alawode Iyanu and 29-year-old Temitope Saliu.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had ordered an investigation into the incident.
According to the command, the incident occurred on September 29, 2026, after police officers intercepted an unregistered Toyota Camry at Fibigbade Street, Ago-Iwoye.
The police said the vehicle was being taken to the station when a Toyota Highlander with registration number JJJ 215 JV allegedly blocked its movement at Abobi Street.
The command said a confrontation subsequently broke out, during which two officers, Inspector Abolarinwa Wasiu and Corporal Olubamiro Adeniyi, were allegedly assaulted.
Babaseyi said, “The Ogun State Police Command will today charge three suspects before the Ago-Iwoye Magistrate Court following an investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police.”
He added that video recordings of the confrontation, which went viral on social media, were among the materials considered during the investigation.
Following the police commissioner’s directive, detectives reportedly visited the scene, investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrested the three suspects.
The police said the suspects would face five counts relating to conspiracy, obstruction of police officers, alleged assault on police personnel and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
“The Commissioner of Police reiterates that the safety and protection of police officers performing lawful duties remain a priority of the Command,” Babaseyi said.
The command urged members of the public who have complaints against police personnel to use lawful channels rather than resorting to physical confrontation.
“Members of the public are encouraged to channel complaints through lawful mechanisms and avoid physical confrontation with police personnel,” the statement added.
The police said further information would be released as the case progresses.
