The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four men for allegedly vandalising a transformer at Government Girls Secondary School, Bunza, in Bunza Local Government Area.
The suspects – identified as Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, alongside Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi from Zamfara State – were apprehended following a joint operation by the Divisional Police Officer in Bunza and a team of local vigilantes.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday. He explained that the suspects stormed the school premises around 3 a.m. on September 10, where they tied up the watchman before dismantling the transformer with chainsaws and other tools.
“A black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN, believed to have been used for the operation, was recovered at the scene. The police also found vandalised armoured cables and other instruments used in the act,” Abubakar said.
He added that two suspects were caught during the operation, while further investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, Birnin Kebbi, led to the arrest of the remaining gang members.
According to him, “The suspects are currently in custody and will soon be charged to court for prosecution.”
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the swift response of the Bunza divisional team and local vigilantes, describing the operation as a clear example of police-community partnership in tackling crime.
“We remain committed to flushing out criminal elements in Kebbi State. I urge residents to stay vigilant and provide credible information that can help the police respond swiftly to security threats,” he said.
This arrest comes barely weeks after the command apprehended six persons, including a serving Nigerian Correctional Service officer, over the theft of gold ornaments worth over ₦109 million in Bagudo Local Government Area.
