The Federal Capital Territory, Police Command has apprehended four suspects allegedly involved in a one-chance robbery and attempted kidnapping in Abuja, rescuing two victims in the process.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, saying the arrests followed a distress call and swift response from police operatives.
According to Adeh, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, when one Hajara Ali reported to the Life Camp Police Station that her sister, Comfort Habila, had called in distress, claiming she had been abducted by criminals who demanded a ransom of ₦1 million for her release.
“Upon receipt of the report, police operatives from Life Camp Division immediately swung into action. Through the deployment of digital and tactical intelligence, the suspects were arrested at Dape Village around 4:30 a.m. on October 9 after a near-deadly confrontation with the police,” Adeh said.
She added that two victims, Comfort Habila and Aliyu Adams, were rescued during the operation. Adams, who sustained multiple stab wounds inflicted by the suspects, was rushed to Gwarinpa General Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The arrested suspects were identified as Solomon Tanko, Samuel Audu, Chigozie Joseph, and Emmanuel Chidiebere.
Adeh disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the gang had been involved in a series of one-chance robberies around the Bannex and Kado areas of Abuja, using a tinted vehicle to deceive and rob unsuspecting passengers.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspects have been involved in a series of one-chance robberies around the Bannex and Kado areas, using a vehicle with tinted windows to deceive unsuspecting passengers. They confessed to having picked and robbed six victims, both men and women, before their arrest,” she stated.
Items recovered from the suspects include 15 international passports, two daggers, two cutlasses, four mobile phones, two hammers, bloodstained documents, and three biros.
Adeh noted that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling one-chance robbery in the FCT, a recurring crime in which passengers are lured into commercial vehicles operated by criminals who rob, assault, or abduct them.
“The FCT Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to curb the menace of one-chance robbery through increased patrols, surveillance, and community collaboration,” Adeh said.
